Debbie Friedman and Jewish Creativity

Something tells me artists like Rick Recht , Debbie Friedman and Sarah Silverman could only grow and thrive in the US. Israel is getting there in terms of reckless humour, new religious texts and creative lyrics, but not unlike Babylon in the 3rd 4th and 5th century CE, America trully represents free Jewish artistic and academic freedom.

Israel to my mind still means freedom of expression, with a clause thrown in: ".... as long as you don't offend this ethnic group..." , "...As long as you respect my Grandmother's way of thinking..." , "...As long as you respect my Grandfather's patriarchal traditions...", etc.

That is why it is written that in the end of the days we will all sit under our Israeli fig trees and grapevines doing our own thing .... implying that till then all Israelis will be restless, tense, militant traditionalists, requiring old traditions to stick to religiousely.....sigh.

On a lighter note, we can always do cover versions of American artists....Enjoy.
